i quit...

...alot of nasty habits this week.

No smoking, coffee, or drinking.

Throwing in the towel on that triad was, I admit, a good thing...giving up solid food, driving, reading, and sometimes walking about ...well, not so fun. I haven't been a brave little toaster with an iron clad will...my mouth is full of little titanium screws and stitches...my bloodstream is full of antibiotics and vicodin.

Other not so gory stories:

Reading:
A-Frame by Chad Randl....a lovely history of the campy houses that you could build in a weekend. Watch the idea grow from it's tent like beginnings, to bomb shelters, all the way up to Frank Lloyd Wright's Unitarian Meeting house and beyond. Chock full of original sketches and vintage blueprints. I ordered a print kit from : ubild.com

The Anatomy of a Revolution by Crane Brinton...starts slow to catch you up to all of the information your high school history teacher was too drunk to teach you. It parallels the Russian, French, American, and English revolutions. History told by historians, simple and unbiased...yet somehow, hard to put down (aside from Wikipedia-ing every unrecognizable name mentioned). It will probably lead into a few new books because of its lofty bibliography.

Woodrow's Trumpet by Tim McLaurin... A story set in a sleepy place sandwiched between Chapel Hill and Burlington, NC paces you through it's tobacco country past to it's rash of suburban development changing the town at high velocity...Thus far, I am about half way through , a fairly interesting read.

new posts

2 paintings for end of February (previews). One private buyer and the other will be donated at the Wilmington Literacy Council's auction.

I was an invitee to Paul Newman's "Camp Hole in the Wall" charity auction this year. I donated this piece based on Pope Joan, a historical figure in debate that may (or may not) have ever existed. The piece was 18x24 mixed media and the background was based on the meaning of my last name...much longer story involved (ask and i will post it) but she is above. Note the "Roman" male hairstyle.

I have a show ending it's 2month run in February at Artfuel Inc. this whole shebang was "21 days in my head". All of the pieces sold were made within that period. Influences were based in urban art, my friends (thanks: Todd, Keith, and Adam), a wonky self portrait in a stolen hat, my characters in wheat paste, and an adventure into an older series I titled "highbrow catfights". All in all, the turn out was good and not much will be coming home with me. a.o.k. Sarah, Dave, John, and Nicole are great for trusting me w such an endeavour...Above is "brainsucka" on vinyl...i hope this one comes home...

Aside from that my pending projects are:

-website

-"Dreams and bones" an 18pc. series that will be available on Saatchi gallery's site in September.

-Childrens book. I am doing this in a very fun way. A mixture of sketches, sculpture (paper+clay), photography, and paint. It will first be released limited edition, handbound (by me), and signed+plated by the author and illustrator. FALL/WINTER 08

- An irregular novel binding +illustration. Not written by me...just illustrated, layout, and binding. These will eventually come in boxed sets. One step at a time.
